With most of the entire team back and after a strong finish at the state tournament a year ago, the Lincoln Christian boys golf team has their sights set on even more in 2025.
Last May, Lincoln finished 4th as a team at the Class 3A state tournament at Muskogee Country Club.
Three returning Bulldogs finished in the top 52 of individuals at the state tournament, as Lincoln had a great season last spring.
The Bulldogs took runner-up at the regional tournament last April at Rock Creek Golf Course in Sapulpa.
Head coach Jeff Campbell will take over the program in his first season as head coach.
Campbell has high expectations for a group that has many familiar faces back.
"I think with the four seniors and the other returning members, we have a chance to compete for a state championship," Campbell said. "We have two full teams that push and should compete for each tournament."
Campbell highlighted some of the returners as upperclassmen that have been around and know how that consistency is key.
"Ryan Cordova, Luke Gunter, Asa Loftis, Jaxon Roberts, Luke Campbell, Kael Wilkinson and Caleb Ellig seem to be very consistent and could solidify a great team," said Campbell.
There is also a newcomer that should burst onto the scene, as freshman Brant Ritzhaupt has dominated throughout his junir golf and junior high career and will definitely play a key role this spring.
"I'm really looking forward to seeing Brant compete and grow into a strong competitor," Campbell said. "As a freshman, he has an amazing upside, and hopefully will become very consistent contributor as we get into the meat of the season."
As the season gets underway on Monday, March 24 at Peoria Ridge in Miami, Campbell expects to see his team very comfortable during the early part of the season due to experience.Â
"Our strengths are age and experience," he said. "Kids that know how to grind when it's tough."
One thing Campbell hopes to improve upon is being consistent from top to bottom, avoiding high scoring rounds.
"We need to get to a point where scoring consistency isn't an issue," he said. "We strike the ball well as a team, we have to learn to minimize big numbers."
Lincoln will be at Heritage Hills in Claremore for the East Central Tournament on Tuesday, followed by a trip to Nowata for a tournament on Thursday.
The busy opening continues with another event next Monday, March 31 with the Coweta Invitational at Indian Springs in Broken Arrow, followed by a trip out west to Crimson Creek in El Reno for the Yukon Tournament.
The Bulldogs are ready to get going and hope that they are right back where they were last May, this year, competing for a Class 4A state championship.
"The goal is always going to be a state tournament appearance and if things transpire the right way, we could be right there in the end to compete for the championship," Campbell said.
Lincoln will play in the Collinsville Tournament on April 10 at Bailey Ranch, followed by the Perkins Invitational at Cimarron Trails in Perkins on April 14.
Lincoln will compete in the Pinnacle Conference Tournament at LaFortune on April 15 before closing our the regular season on April 21 at Buffalo Rock in Cushing.
The regional tournament will be held on April 30 in either Wister or Kingfisher, with state to follow May 12-14 at Dornick Hills in Ardmore.
