Wrestlers Making Strides to Close Out 2024, Aiming for Big 2025

Lincoln got off to an impressive start at both levels to close out 2024, as the Bulldogs look to keep momentum going into 2025 for the remainder of the season.

The junior high team won the Ray Nunnelly Invitational at Edison and placed 2nd at the Joe Cole Invitational at Cleveland, showing tons of promise in the younger ranks.

Meanwhile, the high school has been led by some returning contributors and new faces through the first two tournaments of the season.

"Our guys have been working hard to make up some ground over Christmas break and we look forward to wrestling a loaded schedule in January," said first-year head coach A.B. Stokes.

Ty Trasher, a state semifinalist from a year ago, placed 2nd at Edison and then won the Cleveland tournament.

Hudson Farris, also a state qualifier from last year, was 3rd in both tournaments.

Fellow state qualifier Gabe Huntsigner, along with freshman Ethan Uyetake and senior newcomer Dawson Fullingim, each placed 5th at Cleveland.

"We have been making strikes with the high school team and our junior high has gotten off to an impressive start," said Stokes. "

At Edison, Thrasher won by fall or tech fall in both opening rounds, as well as the quarterfinals and semifinals before falling in the championship match.

Farris won by fall, major decision and tech fall to advance to the semifinals, where the junior narrowly lost to Chase Dyer of Bixby.

Farris bounced back with a tech fall win to take home 3rd place later that day.

Sam Severtson was the other placer for Lincoln at Edison, taking 6th after going 3-2 over the weekend.

In the middle school division, Drayton Jones (86), Landon Andrews (92), Andrew Araskog (112) and Tucker Tatum (140) took home gold at Edison for Lincoln.

Meanwhile, in junior high, Maddax Madrid (140) and Nate Uyetake (155) brought home 1st.

Kolden Pratt (98) and Corde Williams (106) took home 2nd for the middle school, while Noah Sword (80) finished as runner-up for the junior high.

Peyton Wren (80) and Ben Froehlick (86) were 3rd in middle school, while Arion Stokes (106), Gavin Moore (132) and Jake Hornstien (140) were also 3rd in the junior high division.

At Cleveland, Thrasher took home the title at 165, going 4-0 over the weekend with three pins and another tech fall victory.

Farris was 3rd again at 138, as the junior won his first three matches before falling in the semifinals.

Farris bounced back with a 9-2 decision win in the consolation semis before pinning his opponent in the 3rd place match.

Huntsigner (144) and Uyetake (157) each went 3-2 over the weekend, while Fullingim finished 4-2.

On the junior high squad, Sword, Andrews, Drake Sheffield (126) were 2nd, while Jones, Madrid and Nate Uyetake finished 3rd.

Stokes was 4th, Hornstien was 5th and Easton Smith (112) was 6th

The teams were at Glenpool on Friday for a dual tournament, facing off against Sapulpa, Glenpool, Rogers (Ark.), Durant and Putnam City in Pool A.

Lincoln will be at the Larry Wilkes Invitational next Friday-Saturday in Jenks.
