It was an outstanding week for the Lincoln wrestlers, as the Bulldogs took 2nd at district duals before having a great showing at the Paul Post Invitational in Sallisaw.
On Jan. 16, Lincoln finished 2nd at a district dual tournament, beating No. 13 Tonkawa, Morris and Henryetta. Pawnee took home the tournament title.
And last weekend, Lincoln continued the momentum at the always tough Paul Post event in Sallisaw, as three Bulldogs brought home hardware.
"Our guys wrestled well and we were able to bring home three medals," said Lincoln head coach AB Stokes.
Junior Hudson Farris took home 2nd in Sallisaw, continuing his strong season at 132 lbs.
After getting a bye in the 1st round, Farris ripped off five straight victories to make the finals.
He had two pins, a tech fall and won a 4-1 match before beating Matthew Mahalik of Guthrie 16-11 in the semifinals.
"He came into the tournament unseeded and knocked off the No. 2, No. 3, No. 6 and No. 7 seeds to make the finals," Stokes said.
Farris fell to Tommy Miller of Marlow in the finals.Â
Lincoln's Ty Thrasher took home 5th place over the weekend at 157, going 6-1 in the tournament.
The junior won all four of his first matches by fall before losing to Ben Smith of Heritage in the semifinals.
He bounced back with a tech fall win the consolation before pinning Clint Ladon of Marlow in the 5th place match.
"He lost one match to a two-time state champion from Arkansas," Stokes said. "But he bounced back with a quick pin and a tech fall against a ranked opponent from Marlow."
Thrasher also achieved a new milestone over the weekend, becoming the first Lincoln wrestler to win 100 matches.
Gabe Huntsinger took home 6th place, continuing his solid season.
The junior won his opening match before falling in the 2nd round too Henry Murphy of Bentonville.
However, Huntsigner bounced back with four straight win, including two pins and a 7-1 decision, to make the 5th place match before falling in an 8-4 decision to Brennan Harris of Marlow.
"Gabe has continued to improve throughout the season and looked sharp throughout the tournament," Stokes said.
Ethan Uyetake (157) and Trent Jenkins (113) went 4-3 over the weekend in strong showings for the Bulldogs.
"Ethan and Trent both made it into the top 16 brackets," Stokes said. "Ethan finished 3-0 on Saturday while Trent was able to secure a 1-2 record."
Lincoln will be back in action this weekend as they head north for an out-of-state event.
"We travel to Garden City, KS for a tough test this weekend," Stokes said. "I look forward to seeing their progress."
Lincoln will be back at home on Feb. 11 for the final home dual of the season.
