The Lincoln wrestling program kicked off the new year in a big way on Friday, as the Bulldogs showed out at the Glenpool Duals, taking the title in the Silver Division and finishing 5th overall as a team.
"It was a great day of competition for us," said Lincoln head coach AB Stokes.Â
The Bulldogs continued to build on the momentum of a fast-growing program, vastly improving their finish from last year's showing in Glenpool.
"We didn't win a dual at this tournament last year, so there was definitely a little motivation to go out and wrestle well," Stokes said.
The Bulldogs went 5-1 on the day, picking up wins over No. 11 (6A) Putnam City, Pryor, Rogers (AR), Van Buren (AR) and Putnam City North.
Lincoln's only loss was a close one to tournament host No. 15 (5A) Glenpool.
"I'm really proud of the guys and look forward to watching them grow this season," Stokes said.
The Bulldogs were led by junior Lincoln Torres, freshman Max Madrid and seniors Hudson Farris and Ethan Uyetake — all of which finished 6-0 on the day.
Torres (285) dominated in his first action of the year, pinning No. 2-ranked Roger Garrett from Pryor in the Bulldogs win over the Tigers. He also pinned his other four opponents and received a forfeit to complete the perfect day.
Madrid (157) received two forfeits but had two wins by fall, another by a 9-0 major decision in the win over Glenpool and a 7-4 win in the Rogers dual.
Farris (138) had a big day, winning four matches by fall and another in a 15-6 major decision victory in the Pryor dual.
Uyetake (175) also won four matches by fall, as well as a 7-1 decision in Lincoln's win over Rogers.
Senior Gabe Huntsigner, as well as freshmen Arion Stokes and Drake Sheffield each went 5-1 over the weekend to help the Bulldogs to the strong finish.
Huntsigner (150) pinned all of his opponents aside from in the Van Buren dual, where he won in a 18-1 tech fall.
Stokes (106) won three matches by fall, as well as another by a 15-7 major decision in the Van Buren dual.
Sheffield (132) pinned three of his opponents, while also winning 18-1 in a tech fall vs. Glenpool and in a 9-3 decision against Putnam City North.
Freshman Easton Smith (126) also performed well for the Bulldogs, finishing 4-2 on the day. He pinned three opponents, while also winning 14-0 in a major decision in the Putnam City dual.
The Bulldogs will be in action next at the Pinnacle Conference Duals on Tuesday at Cascia Hall.
