Track Teams Impress During Indoor Season, Set Numerous School Records

Even before spring arrives, the Lincoln track and field team is setting records and winning medals.

The Bulldogs wrapped up a tremendously successful indoor season, performing very well at both indoor meets they competed in.

Lincoln was at Pittsburg State on Jan. 11 and then competed a couple of weeks later at the Rock Chalk Indoor meet at the University of Kansas on Jan. 26.

"We broke 21 school records and won four gold medals," said head coach Stephen Lewelling. "I can't recall a time we won any events previously at indoor meets."

"To say we performed well is an understatement."

Senior Ally Huxtable, who signed with Oral Roberts this week, continued her storied career with two stellar performances in the month of January.

Huxtable won the 200 meter at KU and is ranked in the top six in the state for that event, as well as the 60 meter and 400 meter.

"She broke a school record every time she touched the track," Lewelling said.

She ran 7.89 in the 60 and 25.69 in the 200. Her time of 57.48 set the record in the 400 at Pitt State.

Huxtable is top 10 in 13 different events at Lincoln and holds eight school records.

Fellow senior Baylee Woodrich, who brought home the cross country individual state title in the fall, won the 3,000 meter event at Pitt State with a school record performance at 10:36.

Woodrich is also ranked No. 3 in the state for the mile, which is another school record she holds after a 5:16 time in Lawrence.

Senior Ellie Stine, who signed with Liberty this week, threw 47-10 to win the weight throw.

She qualified for indoor nationals and is currently ranked No. 32 in the country.

Stine was the state runner-up as a junior in the discus last spring.

Sophomore Bentley Stewart set the school record in the mile at the Pitt State meet, running 5:22, which Woodrich reset at KU. Stewart also had a big come-from-behind win in her heat at the meet in Lawrence.

Fellow sophomore Tennyson Housley also set a new school record at KU in the 600, running 1:37.

On the boys side, more records fell.

Junior Garner McAfee took home the 600 meter title at KU with a new school record at 1:37. He crushed to victory in Lawrence, winning by three seconds.

McAfee also set the school record in the 800 at Pitt State, running 1:58.

Senior Elliot George had a great indoor season and month of January, as he competed in four events and set school records each time.

George posted marks of 6-foot in the high jump and 12-6 in the pole vault at Pitt State, before improving on those just three weeks later.

He furthered his pole vault record with a leap of 13-feet and did the same in the high jump, finishing at 6-04.75.

Sophomore Sammy Farris set a new school record in the mile at Pitt State, running 4:28.

That time puts him at No. 4 in the state currently. He also finished as runner-up in the 800 at the KU meet.

A couple of young Lincoln sprinters also fared well at both meets.

Freshmen CJ Wright and Caleb Peterson are each ranked nationally after their performances last month.

Peterson set the school record at Pitt State in the 60 meter, running 7.28. He also ran 23.45 to set a new record in the 200.

Wright finished just a smidge faster in the 60 at 7.28 to also set a school record in the earlier meet.

He broke that record with a time of 7.24 just three weeks later, as he currently sits as the No. 18 in the country.

Lincoln opens the outdoor spring season on March 1 at Holland Hall.
