The Lincoln cross country teams ended the 2024 regular season emphatically, as both teams ran away from the competition on Tuesday at Holland Hall, each winning the Pinnacle Conference Championship.
The girls, ranked No. 2 in Class 4A, finished 1-2-3 in the individual standings and had six of the top 16 finishers, as the Bulldogs finished well ahead of runner-up Regent Prep.
Baylee Woodrich finished 1st overall with time of 11:12 for Lincoln, as she continues her strong senior season.
"Baylee has been putting together one great practice after another which is now showing up in race results," said Lincoln head coach Stephen Lewelling.
Sophomores
Bentley Stewart and
Tennyson Housley finished 2nd and 3rd, respectively. Stewart ran 12:10 and Housley finished with a time of 12:14.
"
Bentley Stewart is on a different level mentally and has leaned in on being tough and setting big goals," Lewelling said.
Senior
Ally Huxtable ran her best time ever, finishing 7th overall at 12:34, while
Saylor Franklin had a personal best, as well, running 13:11 to place 11th.Â
"Other big time performances were Ally's huge PR of 12:34 and Saylor, once again, stepping up to be our 5th runner and having a PR of her own," said Lewelling.
Brynlee Durborow was 16th for Lincoln, running 13:15.
The girls will be looking to go back-to-back after winning the 2023 state title last fall. The Bulldogs have won three state championships in school history.
"It's every coach's dream to have the depth and senior leadership we have," Lewelling said. "I'm grateful to get to watch them work together."
On the boys side, it was more of the same, as Lincoln dominated the event.
Lincoln's depth was on full display, as the Bulldogs had four of the top six and six of the top 10 finishers in the event, coasting to the title ahead of runner-up Regent Prep.
"The boys placed 12 of the top 20 runners," Lewelling said. "What that means is our 12th guy would be no worse than every other team's 4th best runner."
Lincoln, ranked No. 1 in Class 4A, was led by sophomores
Ty Brooks and
Sammy Farris, who finished 2nd and 3rd, respectively. Brooks ran 16:33, while Farris was just behind at 16:37.
"What's really crazy about our boys team is our top four boys are all underclassmen," said Lewelling. "They've grown so much and the senior leadership we've had this year has been tremendous."
Trevor Hacker ran well again, finishing 5th with a time of 16:52.
Garner McAfee was 6th in a very solid performance with a time of 17:00.
Elliot George continued to perform strong for Lewelling and the Bulldogs, finishing 9th with nearby time of 17:03. Collin Pogue earned himself a top 10 by finishing 10th at 17:18.
Ben Bouldin was 12th, running 17:29, while
Asher Ragland was 13th with a time of 17:42.
Noah Caughey was 15th, running 17:45.
Gabe Sword was 18th and
Cristiano Sejera was 19th, as each ran 18:05.
Braxton Ferguson rounded out the top 20 by running 18:08.
The boys will be looking for their 3rd straight state title and the 8th in school history.
Both teams will be at regionals in two weeks.
